Handforth Garden Walks
"Handforth Garden Walks" is an event that normally happens every two years - the next event will be in 2011. All proceeds are shared between a number of charities.
In the last Garden Walk, held on 29th June, 2009 we raised around £1100 from ticket sales, plant and refreshment sales and a raffle. The monies raised were divided between the three charities, Beechwood Cancer Care Centre, Candlelighters and East Cheshire Hospice. Our thanks to everyone who opened the garden and the visitors who helped make the event such a success!
Enjoy some time being 'led up the garden path' by the members of our Society and their friends. They want to share the great pleasure that they obtain from their gardens and at the same time raise much needed funds for very worthwhile causes in our local community.
If anyone would like to open their garden for a weekend as part of the Handforth Garden Walks, please contact one of the committee members. We are always on the lookout for new local gardens to visit.
Some of the gardens on display demonstrate a particularly great commitment but the owners of most will not claim them to be remarkable. Nevertheless, each one is unique and tended with a joy and loving care which we hope that you will sense as you visit them.
With one or two exceptions, most of the gardens are within an area which would make it possible for them to be visited by means of a comfortable walk around the Village. For the benefit of those visiting from outside the area, a map can be provided that shows the positions of public car parks. Generally, there is no restriction on street parking but we would request that, if visiting individual gardens by car, you should park with consideration for the neighbours and if necessary, park some distance away.
Many of our members are dog lovers. However, out of consideration for all visitors, the gardeners and the dogs themselves, we would request that only guide dogs should be admitted. Unless otherwise stated in the particulars of the individual gardens, there will be wheelchair access to some parts of each garden.
In certain gardens there are plants for sale and refreshments offered. |
